Pesaro’s food and heritage
Boardwalk
Start your visit from Piazzale della Libertà, where the Palla di Pomodoro is located, which is a sculpture representing Pesaro. Here you will also find Villino Ruggeri, one of the best liberty style buildings in Italy, which is perfectly preserved. Continuing on Viale Trieste, a street which runs along the sea, you can find some of the best restaurants, pubs and ice-cream shops of the area. When you reach the port, keep going to the end of the wharf, which is a perfect spot to admire the city, take some pictures and relax with an aperitif in front of a picturesque sunset.
Baia Flaminia
Between the San Bartolo hill and the port, there is a natural bay that is really special: thanks to its particular position, during the summer season, sunrise and sunset reflect on the sea, creating a really rare phenomenon. Viale Bruxelles is a street with some restaurants and they offer many kind of local dishes and seafood, but also ethnic cuisines, such as Thai, Japanese and Greek.
Sottomonte beach
Along the south coast there is the biggest beach in the city with 10km of sand. You can reach it by car and you can park on the street SS16. Many beach properties and restaurants are interspersed with free beach areas. A cycle lane starts from Baia Flaminia and ends in Sassonia in Fano, so this long path that follows this coast is a great opportunity for evocative walking or rides by bike.
City Centre
My suggestion is to leave your car at the free parking called “San Decenzio” and you can go downtown by foot or by free shuttle bus. The most interesting places to visit are Rossini’s house, San Terenzio cathedral, Rocca Costanza (Costanza fortress), Palazzo Mosca (Mosca palace), Civic museums, Musei Oliveriani (Olivieri’s museum). Then there is Piazza del Popolo, which is very important for the city, so many events take place here, such as culinary festivals. Here you could also find its splendid Palazzo Ducale. If you like classical music or opera, you can spend a lovely evening at Rossini’s theatre.
Food
Have a taste of truffle dishes, passatelli with broth, grilled seafood from the Adriatic coast, fish soup, porchetta, piadina and the famous Pizza Rossini; have these great food with a DOC wine, such as Bianchello del Metauro, Colli Pesaresi and Pergola, or with an artisan beer. End your meal with a moretta and a good ice-cream.
